1955-1983

Mahshid Niroomand was a 28-year-old Iranian Baháʼí and Shiraz native. She was killed during a round-up of Baháʼís in Shiraz in the early 1980s. After the Islamic Revolution in 1979, members of the Baháʼí faith were intensely targeted and persecuted. She faced six months of imprisonment and torture after refusing to renounce her faith and was later executed in June, 1983. Niroomand’s body was not turned over to her family and was instead buried in a confiscated Baháʼí cemetery in Shiraz.
